Shocking Images of "Denuded" P.S. 64
If you're having trouble imagining what kind of damage could be done to P.S. 64, which was designated as a landmark on June 20 by the Landmarks Commission, take a look at the images below. We've juxtaposed the building's current appearance with the "scalped and denuded" renderings that architectural consultant Andrew Alpern, who was representing the owner, displayed at a June 6 landmarks hearing.
Because the owner has a permit to remove the facade -- which predates the landmark designation, community members are reaching out to him as a neighbor to seek ways that we can work together to save the building and its facade.

Every community leader has written a letter to express great concern to Gilsanz, Murray, Steficek, the engineering and architectural firm which has provided the plans to undertake the work you see above. (Read their letters.) These photos speak louder than words in demonstrating the truly shocking damage that the owner plans for the building if it is landmarked. Get more info on our home page.
